A cute moment between Charlotte and Natalie.

The Life of a Second-Born

Natalie decided that Charlotte needed some dolphins on her face yesterday. To be fair, she also decorated herself and me. Good times.

A Pajama Day

Everybody needs a pajama day sometimes. Natalie took hers yesterday. We just recently broke out the winter footie jams, so she's been enjoying them, and who says they're just for nighttime? :) She and I had a lot of fun special times together while Charlotte took naps. We played outside and made applesauce with her Grand-dad's apples--yummy! As you can see she had to sample as she went.

In the Kitchen

natcooking1.jpg

Some of my favorite memories from childhood involve the kitchen. When I was a kid, my grandmother Garcia would corral me into helping her roll tortillas. I wasn't (and still am not) all that careful about creating a perfect circle when rolling them out, and she would point at my work and say "there's Texas, and California, and Florida..." then laugh in a way that let me know she was teasing. To this day, the smell of cooking tortillas makes me think of her and the kitchen in Beeville.

Tonight, we had fideo and tortillas for dinner and Natalie helped make the main dish. I put the spices into small bowls, and she added them to the pot and stirred them in. She had fun doing it, and I enjoyed watching how seriously she took the task of making sure the spices were thoroughly added.

Next lesson? Tortilla rolling.

Sisters

Today, I watched the girls while Shannon worked. After Natalie and I ate, she filled her diaper. While I disposed of the diaper, Charlotte began crying for the second half of her bottle. Natalie, without any prompting, grabbed the bottle and said "Charlotte hungry? Charlotte need to eat?" She stuck the bottle in Charlotte's mouth and said "You feed Charlotte?" ('You' being her word for 'I' or 'Me').

My first instinct, of course, was to grab the camera and catch the moment. I love the way they're looking at each other in that picture.

After Charlotte ate, they shared this moment:
