Sour! Sour!

One of the most common complaints I hear about two-year olds is that they tend to start being picky about food. So far, Natalie seems to be the exception to that particular rule. This kid has quite the adventurous palate. This video shows her enjoying balsamic vinaigrette dressing and bread. She refers to the dressing as "sour."

Last weekend, we had grilled salmon. Natalie ate most of her fillet. She also enjoys avocado, spinach, broccoli, carrots (raw and cooked), green beans, tofu, chorizo, couscous, black olive and pickles. She will eat nearly anything we put in front of her.

I bring this up as just another reason I love this kid. She's fearless in so many ways, and willing to try new things. It's fun watching her experiment, learn, and enjoy experiencing life's pleasures.

Home!

Working together.jpg

So after a couple weeks of being off the radar, we're back. Peter had a conference for work in D.C., and Natalie and I tagged along to stay with relatives in Bethesda. Along the way we visited other family in Jersey and Pennsylvania, then saw our dear friends the Bookers outside Phili on the way home.

It was a fun trip, but by the end of it we were all pooped and so glad to be home. Natalie was a super trooper on the trip, and did awesomely on the 10 hour ride home with no extended stops (although Mommy totally shot down Daddy's plan to go through the drive-through for lunch! :) ). Poor thing had her first real throw-up on the way down, and peed around her diaper into her car seat many, many times both directions. So that got thrown into the laundry pronto upon the return home!

When we got home Saturday evening she and I wandered around the yard while Peter did all the hard work of unpacking the car. She was so happy to be in her own space, going from thing to thing and exclaiming about it. We checked out all the green things that had popped up while we were away. Then headed inside, did bath time and put her to bed. After a little fussing and wanting to be in Mommy's bed (a little separation anxiety developed from trip stress and being with Mommy or Daddy ALL the time), she crashed hard. After showering off the trip grunge and devouring the goodies left in our refrigerator by Grammy and Grampy, Peter and I followed suit. I think I sang a little song to my bed, I was so happy to be back in it. :)

Sunday and Monday were wonderful days of having yummy big breakfasts cooked by Peter, picking away at the unpacking and laundry, playing in the yard and going to the park, and then having more yummy dinners also made by Peter. :) Boy we Cook girls have it made! I don't think I cooked a single thing all weekend. We just tried to relax and give ourselves, especially the girl, some low-key days at home with minimal to no car time.

So now it's Tuesday and back to routine. Peter back to work and just us girls. The house is getting back to normal and we're getting rested. I am trying to resist the new nesting/organizing urges that arise with getting home from a trip and it being spring. Don't want to overwhelm myself or my child. :) One thing at a time. People first, things second. Must chant this to myself several times a day. God knows too, because he sent me visits with two neighbors yesterday to interrupt my plans and it was great to reconnect with them. And today, my friend Esther is stopping by. Actually, she just called, so gotta go! Love to everyone.
