The Joys of Home Ownership, Part 5,609

Well, crap...

This certainly wasn't how I expected to spend the day.

We knew the roof was leaking a little bit, we just couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Today's rain was hard enough to make the problem worse, so we took a look.

Things like this display the complete inadequacy of my guy instincts. If any of you have this issue, take it from me. Water damage on ceilings is there for a reason - it's best not to poke a keyhole saw into that spot while looking straight up.

As you can see, the results of our investigation were not pretty. Fortunately, the leak was not in the part that was just shingled, but in the valley connecting the new roof to the old. The water was running down the valley and some of it managed to find its way into the house. One of the guys who did the roof was able to come over and apply some sort of sealant - yes, he climbed on the roof in the rain.

Roofers are nuts.

So it looks as though we'll get another part of our roof done in the next few weeks to cover that valley and keep it from happening again.

As for the ceiling...well, we've always wanted a light in the foyer. Now's our chance!

:( Aww, that's so sad! Sorry that happened to you guys! Water in the house (like 10" in the basement) is never any good! But such is homeownership huh?
