This is SOP for most fundraising calls. I can't think of a single fundraising call where my "sorry, can't afford it" response DIDN'T elicit a "how about a little less?" counter-offer, let alone 1 or 2 MORE requests for decreasing amounts.

Singling out Romney for this tactic, therefore, is silly.
