Music to Torture Me By
This post by Rachel Lucas got me thinking - if a judge wanted to punish me by making me listen to music I hated, what would it be?
The first song would have to be "Imagine" by John Lennon. I hate everything about that song: the insipid Obama-ish naivete of the lyrics, the boring piano accompaniment and the near-monotone in which Lennon sings. I love the Beatles and think some of Lennon's solo stuff is great, but this song and his near-atonal Christmas song make my ears bleed.
Anything by Willie Nelson. Especially the song he sang with Julio Iglesias, which is basically two old guys creepily reminiscing about their success at seducing groupies. How, er, romantic.
Aaron Neville: falsetto + excessive vibrato = change the station.
Madonna. Set aside the increasingly pathetic attempts to stay shocking and relevant. The woman just can't sing. Her voice is thin, reedy and unpleasant.
Finally, Beyonce. My Room 101? Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" played over and over and over again at full volume.

at least they no longer show the cotton commercials with Aaron Neville warbling in the background.

I agree with every tune on that list. I would only add "Angie", Mick Jagger's attempt at singing a ballad. In my opinion, it's the worst thing ever recorded.

"Hotel California". BEYOND tiresome.
And ditto on "Angie". I hate that song with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns.
