Batman Dead?
Oh, you have got to be kidding me.
The world's most famous comic book hero has breathed his last Bat breath. So in one fell swoop, this series not only 'kills off' one of the most popular characters in comic book history, but also completely undermines what makes Batman who he is by bringing his father back to life. I'm glad Christopher Nolan is keeping the true Batman storyline alive, because DC Comics seems more interested in selling books than respecting the integrity of my favorite comic book character.Bruce Wayne — who by night is Batman — gets murdered by a man claiming to be the father he thought was dead.
In a highly controversial new comic book storyline, Bruce, who first appeared in 1939, is killed by Simon Hurt — the leader of the shady Black Glove organization.
Simon claims he is really Dr Thomas Wayne, saying he faked his own passing when Bruce was a child.
The superhero dies when he tries to stop his foe escaping by helicopter in the new comic Batman R.I.P.
Yes, I know this is an incredibly geeky thing to get irritated about, but what can I say? I'm a geek.

What an incredible load of shit, do they think this will create sales? It's more likely to create a revolt. Why can't they leave a good thing alone? I'm sure the Batman sales of the comics have skyrocketed since 'The Dark Knight'.
this is one instance where I'd like to slap them on the head, don't mess with a good thing by undermining Bruce Waynes backstory.

Don't truly consider myself a geek, but I like Batman and this is stupid. It's so aggravating that they think this is a good idea.
Well, here's my advice -- STOP IT. IT'S STUPID.

I don't recall anyone stating that his body was found.
I'm sure he's still alive.
Weren't Superman and Captain America "killed" as well?
Look at them now, they're ok.

Captain America (Steve Rogers) is still dead. Bucky, his sidekick, is now Captain America.
As for Batman, Hurt wasn't his father, but an old acquaintance. And Batman isn't dead. In comics, no body, no death.

Crapping on the shoulders of giants, Morrison.

And be proud of your comic book geek love. It's driven by the same parts of your psyche that make you so interested in the important stuff you love.

He is not dead, as you said no body....not dead. But even better, the narrative is apparently Batman's diary or log. So.....if he is putting this in his log, he can't be dead.

Batman doesn't die in R.I.P
He died on the 14th of January...In Final Crisis #6
He shoots Darkseid (Yes.....Batman breaks his vow)
Darkseid (before dying) shoots omega sanction on Batman
Omega sanction is "death that is life"
that might mean that The Batman's soul is sent to another dimension
I think this was a great end for the great detective (Batman should have lived.....I'm angry with the whole death)
Batman's origin started with a gun and so did his end
but Bruce will be back by 2011

I agree
Being a lifelong batman fan myself, i was completely devastated with his death in Final Crisis. i knew he wouldn't die in R.I.P, hurt was too young to be his father, but i like the way they tied it into the older story of batman confining himself away for an experiment.
also, wished he died in the actual "Batman" comic, instead of final crisis, but nm.
I think Morrison did a great job/is doing a great job.
There was uproar when the original flash died, in crisis on infinite earths, but then kid flash took over and became the new flash and he was flash for YEARS! isn't it time that Nightwing took over? the last few years, where Batman was getting more and more grim and dark, It's been leading to this for sometime.
Give him the best funeral of the DCU and take the man who has been trained for this moment since a circus child and let him do what this hero we are mourning trained to do (sounds dramatic, but i bloody idolise the batman)
by the way-battle for the cowl-if for some stupid reason Damian ever gets the honour i will NEVER read it again.
cheers
