Whoa
I was nervous before tonight's debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin.
Turns out I shouldn't have been. Palin did very well. Biden got a bit too mad at times, and rambled a bit. How well did she do? Brian Williams is mumbling about the electoral map and meeting expectations instead of declaring a definitive winner.
Bottom line: Palin held her own and stood toe-to-toe with Biden without blinking. He looked irritable and pedantic, she looked happy and genuine. That's a win for Palin. David Frum? Rich Lowry? Kathleen Parker? Eat those words. Once again, the chattering classes were wrong.
Incidentally, Ifill never mentioned her semi-pro-Obama book. That was a disappointment. Still, she was fair overall.

"Eat it."
Heh. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one thinking that very thing.

I think Ifill could have asked better questions about more issues. Guns. Abortion. for example. But these are things that don't go in Obama's favor in today's climate. Ifill was fair with what she asked, but it's what she didn't ask that puts a spotlight on her bias.
I thought Palin rocked it last night. Going up against an accomplished debater like Biden was no easy task, especially after being excoriated relentlessly in the press for over a month. She did more than hold her own - she flustered a 35 year Senator. It's a promise of things to come, thank god.

She did well. I think too down home folksy for some people, but then Biden is too slick with the list of examples in every question for some people.
