I Guess Some Pastors are More Scary than Others

The left and the press (but I repeat myself), seem okay with a pastor that calls for God to "damn America," but are collectively freaking out over the fact that a visiting pastor from Africa once prayed over Sarah Palin for protection from witchcraft. If I didn't know any better, I'd think there was some kind of double standard at play or something.

Ace makes a good point here, and writes a line that made me laugh out loud. What was Palin supposed to do? Scream and run out of the church?

A few years ago, I visited Russia with a church group to work at a youth camp for orphaned children. While there, I learned that the Russian church interprets I Thessalonians 5:26 a bit more literally than the American church, and not in a way I was entirely comfortable with. As it turned out, their idea of a "holy kiss" was a smack on the lips. Among brothers.

Yeah, it's exactly what you're thinking. Russian Christian men go there in their interpretation of the Bible. Personally, I've got to say I disagree with them on the translation, but that wasn't something I could say while visiting their country and church.

So...when I was in Russia I kissed a few guys. On the lips. I figured since I was in their country and was a guest of their church, it would be poor form to push Russian Christians away and scream "I don't swing that way!" I wasn't there to have a debate about whether a 'holy kiss' meant on the lips or on the cheeks. I was there to serve God and the orphan kids who attended that camp. If that meant I had to endure some excruciatingly uncomfortable moments while meeting with fellow Christians, so be it.

Liberals and the media are trying to criticize Palin for politeness toward a visiting pastor while ignoring the fact that their hero attended a church with a senior pastor who routinely made anti-American, vulgar, and outrageous statements from the pulpit. The fact that Barack Obama attended that church for years, considered its pastor a spiritual adviser and titled one of his memoirs with a line from one of Jeremiah Wright's sermons leads me to believe he wasn't just being polite with his attendance.

It makes me wonder whether he agrees with Wright's hateful views about this country. If so, what does that say about a man who wants to be our president?

Even the MSM knows how f'd up Obama's church is & how it reflects on him. That is why they are ignoring it. Can't keep The Lamb of Chicago from his Eternal Throne in the Oval Office.

Being of a more plain faith, there were certain of my family members who grumbled under their breath against Catholics, claiming they prayed to idols.
But yet we attended church service when we went to visit them on vacation and I was fascinated. I was a kid and had never been inside a Catholic church. We even got to put white lacy handkerchiefs on our head!! Cool!!

These same parents taught me everybody is different and have different ways. So when it comes to religion I know it can be a touchy subject -- emotional to some and very, very personal.
The point I'm dancing around is I kind of understand how the Reverend could stand up there and say those things and the congregation sit and listen.
BUT -- major but -- I don't think it's right that Obama, wanting to run for Pres., continued that association with the church, the pastor.
The Reverend was preaching to that congregation, Obama wants a much congregation to listen to him.

On edit: Obama wants a much bigger congregation to listen to him -- AND to follow blindly, it seems.
