Follow the Money
The Maine Heritage Policy Center has set up a site full of state spending goodness. Seems the state has spent $80,000 on bottled water and $16,000 on mileage reimbursement for one person.
Awesome.
Full disclosure: As a state employee, I'm in the database. Still, great website.

Our legislators prefer to call them "fees" and tend to add more every year.
The state even licenses barbers, for crying out loud.

Here it's barbers, hair dressers, audiologists, you know, the people that fit your hearing aide, morticians, and every other blessed thing they can think of.
Besides the renewal fee for your driver's license is $30, and my 2 yr. renewal on my tags was $180 (not personalized plates and all you get is that little month sticker to put on) -- and every other January I have to have the emmissions checked to the tune of another $15 -- but that's just for new cars, if you drive a stinky old clunker, it's too old for that.
OHHHH, but it's for the roads or the waterways or the -- whatever. Gee, I thought that's what all that gas tax and 1% increase in sales tax was for.
