Obama Descends into Self-Parody

Wow.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.

The stage, similar to structures used for rock concerts, has been set up at the 50-yard-line, the midpoint of Invesco Field, the stadium where the Denver Broncos’ National Football League team plays.

Some 80,000 supporters will see Obama appear from between plywood columns painted off-white, reminiscent of Washington’s Capitol building or even the White House, to accept the party’s nomination for president…

Once Obama speaks, confetti will rain down on him and fireworks will be fired off from locations around the stadium wall.

Well, I hope they get the dimensions right. Wouldn't want to end up like Spinal Tap, with dwarves dancing around an 18" model.

Obama's arrogance seems to be blinding him to just how ridiculous this will look to the voters he's having the most problem convincing to support him. I'm sure working-class Democrats are going to just love the set. Between this ego-gratification and his attempts to quash advertisements that portray him in a bad light, I think we're seeing glimpses of the real Barack Obama - the intense self-regard, the hardball politics and the glass jaw that shatters under criticism.

Personally, I think he's just trying to capture the vibe of a certain myth.

This reminds me of the movie "Spinal Tap" when the band wanted a replica of Stonehenge as a back drop and they ended up with a a model of Stonehenge that was only a foot high because the plans for the design were misread (12" instead of 12'). Is Obama going to wear a toga when he gives his speech, ride in on a chariot ?

I posted my comment without seeing your entire post (I now see you had already alluded to Spinal Tap) . In the words of Emily Latilla, never mind.

HotAir's post on this refers to the Star Trek episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?", but has "Adonis" instead of "Adonais."

It's really cheesing me off.
