Oil Company Study: Down With Pellet Stoves!

This story struck me as funny.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A study conducted for Maine’s oil dealers says air quality could worsen if thousands of homeowners switch from oil heat to wood pellet stoves.
Really? Maine oil dealers funded a study that makes alternative heating methods look bad?

Go figure, huh?

Heh, my understanding is the pellet heaters really are sooty friggin' things, so I don't know that the study is really off the mark. Obviously the oil industry has a financial interest in doing this study, but it *is* something legit to note for people looking at them as an alternative. Do your homework before you make the investment.

Oh, I have no doubt the pellets are more sooty. They are wood-based, after all. The idea that oil companies suddenly developed a concern for the environment and air quality made me laugh, though.
