Frary Vs. the Bureaucrats

The FEC is after GOP Congressional candidate John Frary.

LEWISTON - John Frary, a Republican from Farmington who is challenging U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, a Democrat, for Maine's 2nd District congressional seat, has run into some trouble with the Federal Election Commission.

The retired history professor misfiled two reports required by the commission, which could result in "civil money penalties, an audit or other legal enforcement action," according to letters written to Frary by the FEC.

"Seems to me these laws were actually devised to go after schemers in Chicago and Kansas City and Baltimore and Newark and other rich, lowly fields of political shenanigans," said Frary in an interview Thursday. "I don't suppose they are really intended to go after obscure retired college professors, but such is the way of bureaucracies."

Indeed. I'm so glad to know that my tax money is being spent to ensure that candidates are filing reports on time. Just imagine the chaos that would ensue if the FEC didn't exist - misfiled reports, non-dotted I's and un-crossed T's. How would our Republic survive such abject anarchy?

Frary's responses make me wish we had more like him running for Congress.

"I don't know whether I have to go down there and dance, play the f---ing harmonica or what," Frary said. "Yes, I'll send all that vital information, absolutely, so they'll stop sweating and they will sleep comfortably at night."
And I think he speaks for us all when he says:
"Federal bureaucracy is a major pain in the ass," he said.
Well played, Professor. Well played.
