And So it Ends...Or Does it?

As I type this, Barack Obama is lying once again about John McCain's "100 years in Iraq" soundbite. His different kind of politics is looking more and more like the same old partisan nonsense, and his invocation of Harry Truman was just laughable. As I've said before, if Truman were alive today, he'd put a boot in the tail of today's Democrats.

And yet...this is still a historical moment. 50 years ago, Jim Crow laws still existed in many states. This evening, a black man is the nominee of a major political party and stands a good chance of being elected president. America is an amazing country. It's unfortunate, though, that history has been made by a guy who's essentially a socialist with Chamberlain-esque tendencies on foreign policy.

Of course, if Hillary Clinton's speech is any indication, she doesn't consider this over. Instead of conceding, she said "no decisions" have been made and encouraged people to visit her website to tell her what they think she should do. Jim Geraghty at NRO says she's setting up a 'my supporters wanted me to fight on' argument.

John McCain also gave a speech this evening. It was boring. On C-SPAN, Mike Allen of Politico called his speech "a little mean" and then said Obama's speech was sure to be "inspiring."

It's going to be a long five months.

Unfortunately, it sometimes looks to me like Obama has only made it this far because he is black.

Which doesn't seem to be much of an improvement.
