A Bulldog Passes
I'm not one to feel particularly emotional when celebrities die, but for some reason hearing about Tim Russert's death was like a punch in the gut. I heard about it from a friend and the internet at about the same time. Just as my wife was telling me what she was hearing on the phone, I had logged onto Hot Air and read the headline.
I think Russert's death hits harder than most because I respected him - not something I can say of most celebrities or reporters. Watching him interview a politician was watching a master at work - I loved it when a politician would answer a question definitively only to have a completely contradictory quote of his or hers put on the screen. Russert's expression was always fantastic - he never gloated, but was always visibly pleased that his trap had worked yet again.
Plus, he just seemed like a genuinely nice guy who had never forgotten who he was and where he came from. Sure, he may have leaned to the left, but he was fair. And it goes without saying that he'll be missed.

He seemed like an actual human being, and another journalist said "he didn't believe in enemies, only opponents" should be a trumpet call to other 'journalists' that tend to make party divisions a big deal.
or would they ever think?
