Ridiculously Late Movie Reviews: Cloverfield

Yes, it really took me this long to see Cloverfield.

My review?

Clever movie, but it would have been better if I actually cared whether the characters lived or died. And it could have used about 83% fewer uses of the word "dude."

The effects were good, though.

Come on dude. It's one of those words that imply so much.

I saw it in the theater shortly after it came out, thought 'meh', but found myself wanting to see it again a few days later due to reading some of the theories online. I think part of the 'meh' was because maybe I'm tired of bad things happening to New York. I don't know if it's trauma fatigue or if the novelty has worn off.

It definitely struck me as a movie you either need to see in the theater or with a good surround sound system, since a lot of the movie seems to depend on volume.
