The Coveted Slublog Primary Endorsement,
Maine 2nd District Edition

Professor John Frary for Congress. His website is funny and sharp - easily one of the best, most original candidate sites I've seen in a long time. Here's an excerpt from his site explaining his candidacy:

“As you may have ascertained by now. I have little desire to follow the tried and true, boring and solemn path to electoral disaster. I intend to say some very serious things, but I don’t see any reason to be funereal about it all. I must assume that the GOP prefers a candidate who is solemn but not serious over a candidate who is serious but not solemn. A candidate who is serious (as opposed to a serious candidate), as you well know, has no prospect of victory in American politics, so there is little danger of my being exiled to the District of Columbia. Still, the prospect of making new enemies is damned inviting.”
I like this guy - he's well-spoken without being condescending. It's almost as though he believes I'm an adult who is tired of poll-approved soundbites and focus-grouped candidates.

If nothing else, this could be one of the most entertaining election years the second district has seen for some time.

I am not in this guy's district, but it might just be worth it to move into it. You're right, Slu, this election should be a hoot.

This endorsement maketh my cup to overflow in a circular cataract of bliss.

I am delighted to read that you are entertained, for it is ever my pleasure to please.

And I own I'm finding the project full of entertaining features myself. I've been receiving daily calls and e-mails, some very engaging. Thursday brought a telephone call from a twit in Mt. Desert who demanded my views on the "issues." He accused me of talking like a Republican and assured me I wasn't getting his vote. When I told him this was welcome news, he grew quite incensed.

Sometimes stupidiy also can be entertaining.

Friday an old fellow from up in Stratton called to bestow his benediction on my ads, then went on to tell me how to relieve Maine's tax burden, how to win the election, where to pick up girls under 250 pounds (NOT in Stratton), how to avoid ensuing complications like marriage, what books to read to change my life and many other interesing and valuable things.
