Time to Scratch off the Organ Donor Sticker...
It's not that I don't want to donate, it's just...well...
A transplant surgeon could face up to eight years in jail after being charged with trying to hasten the death of a patient. The sad thing is, the organs weren't even usable after the man died, having deteriorated past the point of transplantation. Maybe it's time to add another ethics course to the medical school curriculum. In what is thought to be the first case of its kind in the United States, Dr Hootan Roozrokh is accused of prescribing excessive doses of drugs to Ruben Navarro, a brain-damaged potential organ donor, so he could harvest his organs sooner.
Prosecutors allege that Roozrokh ordered large doses of morphine and Ativan, an anti-anxiety drug, both of which are used to comfort dying patients, and also administered a topical antiseptic called Betadine, "a harmful substance that may cause death if ingested", according to the criminal complaint.
At this rate, the 'organ donor' clip from Meaning of Life won't be farce much longer.
This brings up something that's always kind of bothered me. Couldn't they use a word other than "harvest?"

Don't like harvest? How about reaping organs?
