Thoughts on the Spitzer Scandal
Initial reaction?
What an idiot. What a ridiculous, moronic buffoon. Honestly. How stupid can you be?
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Federal prosecutors have unsealed a 47-page affidavit that details a nearly 2½-hour rendezvous that took place in a Washington hotel room last month between New York's Gov. Eliot Spitzer and a prostitute. You've got to wonder what drives these guys to do things like this. The guy is governor of a big state and has long been regarded as a rising star in the Democratic party who could have made a run for the presidency when his time as governor was done. The guy has a wife and three daughters. To give all of that up over this? The affidavit does not mention Spitzer by name, but a source with knowledge of the case said the subject identified as Client 9 is the governor.
The prostitute, identified only as "Kristen" worked for the Emperors Club, which charged between $1,000 and $5,500 an hour and operated in New York; Los Angeles, California; Miami, Florida; London, England; and Paris, France, according to court papers.
Still, I can't claim to be completely without some small measure of glee. Politically, Spitzer is not a nice guy. His use and misuse of his power as attorney general of New York to prosecute and threaten prosecution of everyone from people who worked in the stock market to crisis pregnancy centers in his state. His sanctimony while doing so is likely why he doesn't seem to have a ton of defenders at the moment.
So while I feel bad for his wife and daughters, but I don't feel all that bad for the guy who's putting him through this. Especially since he seems intent on describing this as a 'private matter.'
So with that:

I'm watching New York-based news coverage on C-SPAN now. New Yorkers interviewed on the street seem less than forgiving at the moment - most think he should resign.
Even if he does somehow tough it through this scandal (which is doubtful), any future he had in politics is over.
Update - Heh.
Ah, the intellectual honesty of the left.

No Emperors Club for middle America? Not in Dallas, Chicago, or Kansas City? What happened to the shining city upon a hill?

he was either working undercover to BUST the ring, or was doing research for a book he's working on, like Bernie Ward or Pete Townshend
