Go Figure - Putin Puppet a Hardliner
Russian democracy...it was fun while it lasted.
Russia signalled on Monday it was set to continue its hardline approach to opposition and the west under Dmitry Medvedev, its new president, as it cut gas supplies to Ukraine and police detained demonstrators in Moscow.Looks like the bad old days of the Cold War are coming back. As I've said before, it's hard for me to be objective about Russia's slide back into near-totalitarianism. When I think of Russia, I think of the people I met while there, and how they might be affected by these developments. I guess it was too much to ask that an entire country change its political culture.The moves came just hours after Mr Medvedev, who took 70.2 per cent of the vote in Sunday’s election, said he would take charge of Russian foreign policy after his May 7 inauguration, but pledged to continue the course of his mentor, President Vladimir Putin.
