The Dobson Endorsement Goes to...

approval1.jpg

Mike Huckabee. This was kind of inevitable.

James Dobson, one of the nation's most prominent evangelical Christian leaders, is about to endorse former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, The Associated Press has learned.

Dobson, founder of Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Focus on the Family, talked to the GOP presidential hopeful Thursday and later was to release a statement explaining his choice, said Gary Schneeberger, a spokesman for Dobson.

Huckabee had long sought Dobson's endorsement, believing he is the best fit to advance Dobson's conservative, moral worldview.

At this point, of course, the endorsement is essentially meaningless, since Huckabee has no chance of catching up with McCain in the delegate count. Allah says it's a last bid for attention. I'm inclined to agree, but at the same time have to give Dobson great credit for going out on a limb before Super Tuesday and saying he'd vote for Romney. Given the anti-Mormon sentiment among many evangelicals, that was a pretty bold move on his part and I applaud him for it.

Still...Huckabee?!?

Hmmmm... - A really good idea from Allah:

Maybe [Huckabee] takes over Dobson’s group, Focus on the Family? That’d give him a big platform guaranteeing plenty of media opportunities in the future while he plans another run.
Seriously. Huckabee is a great speaker, an excellent fundraiser and a young, energetic guy. Running an organization like Focus on the Family would be a good fit, as long as he kept the focus on social issues and didn't stray too far into partisan politics.

Always picking on Dobson. Could he have really endorsed anyone else? Maybe he should keep focus on the family a socially relevant organization without becoming a pac.

My opinion is that I would have liked Dobson to not offer an opinion. :)
