Thompson Out

Drudge had it up a few minutes ago, and it has been confirmed by the candidate.

“Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people.”
'Twas organization, not "laziness" that slew the Fred.

Update - Rusty at Jawa Report says it's time for conservatives to rally behind Romney. Of course, his point is dampened by his terrible smear:

Go check out the results of Ace's poll here. I see one vote for Huckabee. I'm guessing that was Slu. But he's probably drunk. And I mean smashed. [Update: Allahpundit has a poll out now, too, but doesn't even have Huckabee as a choice. Guess who's WAY ahead?]
Me? Vote for Huck? I'd have to be smashed.

Rusty's trying to start a fight, and he's succeeded. I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

Okay...that sounded a lot cooler when Maximus said it.

Just wanted the Veep? - This seems credible. Thompson wanted back into politics, raised his visibility in an attempt to be noticed for the veep slot then was surprised enough by the positive reaction to run for the presidency. Unfortunately, though, he did not build enough of an organization to really compete.

Not sure why Cameron would risk his reputation if this didn't have some truth to it. If true, I can't fault Thompson for it - vice president would be a pretty nice job.
