The State of My State
Governor John Baldacci gave his "State of the State" address this evening. I didn't watch the speech, but I read it on the governor's website. I'm impressed by his strong stance against tax increases, but wish he'd talked more about why he has thus far failed to give Mainers the property tax relief he's promised.
State agencies, showing a complete lack of political savvy, held a candlelight vigil to protest the budget cuts Baldacci has proposed, and have decided to embark on a "Make Mainers Hate Us" campaign.
I just watched a few of them interviewed on the local news, and their pleas for more money weren't all that convincing and I don't think they'll play all that well with an already-overtaxed state. It's almost like they want us to vote for the next TABOR proposal.

Don't forget to include the states unwillingness to require it's employees to shoulder ANY of their own healthcare, dental or life insurance costs. The BDN had an op/ed bit about this earlier in the week.
