The Campaigns Come to Maine
Just saw the first political ad of the season aimed at Maine voters. It was for Ron Paul, who campaigned today in the state.
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul says he is hoping for "a grand showing" in this weekend’s Maine Republican caucuses.I expect Paul to do quite well in Maine. His 'leave me alone' form of conservatism will go over well here. Plus, his supporters are the most active (the only political signs I've seen are those for Paul) and since we're a caucus state, that counts for quite a bit.Stopping at the State House today, Paul was enthusiastically cheered by supporters throughout a rally that drew more than 150 people.
Sounding his themes of less government and more freedom, the Texas congressman said he’s optimistic about many things happening in the country, but pessimistic about its leadership.
Paul is viewed as a longshot candidate nationally, but state Republican Party Executive Director Julie O’Brien says his supporters may have been the most active in Maine.
Still, other candidates are making an effort. Mitt Romney has announced his Maine steering committee. Some good names on there.
John McCain is endorsed by both of Maine's senators, which isn't exactly proof of his conservative bona fides.

I got a call the other day from a Ron Paul pollster trying to get me to say I'd vote for him. I told them I wasn't planning on it. I also saw an ad while working out today at the gym. I agree, I think he'll be popular here in Maine, but it's obvious he's not getting the nomination.
