Independents for McCain and Other Random NH Thoughts

I've got a radical idea. How about we let Republicans pick the Republican nominee?

The economy and the war in Iraq were the top issues in both party primaries, according to interviews with voters leaving their polling places after casting ballots in the most wide-open presidential race in at least a half-century.

The same surveys showed McCain building an advantage over Romney on the strength of independent voters, who helped the Arizona senator win the state primary eight years ago. About one-third of votes cast in the Republican race were from independents, and McCain was winning them. He and Romney were running roughly evenly among Republicans.

I really hope this is the year that drives a stake through the heart of the current primary schedule. What's the point of joining a party if a state is going to allow people not associated or invested in that organization to pick its leaders?

Is it too much to ask that we hold early primaries in states where voters aren't such whiny nancys about so-called "negative ads?"

Oh, and Hillary might win. Well, this throws the whole "Republicans for Obama" idea right out the window, just as it was catching fire.

Looking at the results...Thompson got 1%? Behind Ron Paul? Jeez...

It should be noted, when the actual delegates are counted up...Romney is winning. This should help him during the brokered convention.

This may seem petty, but I hate John Edwards' smile. It grates on me like a fork scraped across a metal bowl. I want to throw a tomato at him.

Hillary wins. Oh, boy. Now things get really interesting.

Well, you could just as easily have said "Republicans for the Dem nominee" as Hillary is actually a better protest vote than Obama. It just seemed that Obama was going to run away with it for a few days there.

Aside from the visceral distate for Shrillary (that I share), she'd actually be a better exec than Obama most likely.

Indeed. Well said. Most of the Republican field are RINO asshats who will not get my vote. I will gleefully vote for the Dhimmi instead of the Repug who wins the nomination. Slub and the others are perpetuating a RINO subversion of true conservatism by their blind faith to the Party. I'll not make the same mistake thrice. F 'em.

Let me guess, Anon, you're a Ron Paul supporter, right?

Whoever you are, you're not very convincing. While a lot of GOP supporters might complain about the conservative bona fides of the current candidates, few would call any of them a "Repug."

Hey, why don't you throw a "Bu$hitler" reference into your next comment, just for kicks?

So how does threatening to vote for a Democrat equal blind faith to the party, exactly? The reason I'm so anti-Huckabee is that I feel his candidacy would do exactly what you claim to fear - a "subversion of true conservatism."

Doesn't it appear that we just aren't going to have a conservative candidate this fall? Maybe, just maybe, this has something to do with a conservative screwing up the last 8 years in the White House? I do think the evangelicals are making a naked power grab with the Huckaboom, but that is just opportunism methinks. Bush set this up by being incompetent; a RINO is probably the best we can hope for come November, if the GOP wants any kind of electability at all. Fred is the last chance--he's conservative, but such an unusual candidate that he might avoid the scarlet letter W. Too bad he's AWOL at the helm of his campaign, and has no charisma to cover for lack of organization.

I was the Anonymous up above. No, I am not a RonBot. If *he* won the Democrap nomination, I'd just stay home.

Slub, over on AoS, you and Jack gave me hell for stating that I would never vote for Romney, Giuliani, or McCain. That's what I was referring to above...nominally Republican conservatives who would be willing to hold their noses and vote for whoever secured the nomination. I will not do that again.

BTW, I call them "Repugs" because they almost ran me away from the party with their antics over the past several years. Immigration, pork spending, No Child Left Behind, caving in to Dhimmicraps, etc. The Republican Party is nothing but Democrat-lite these days.
