Huckabee Supporters: Don't Break the Law...Just Nuance it a Little

Unbelievable.

Scratch that. All too believable, actually. Just unbelievably disappointing.

The email tells supporters to convince church pastors to personally endorse Huckabee (away from the pulpit), and then from the pulpit, to get the pastors to encourage their flocks to vote (without mentioning an individual candidate). “This is perfectly legal,” it says. “For those who will, schedule a news conference…at the public library or a local restaurant or hotel conference room (not a church), and invite all pro-Huckabee pastors to attend.”
Allah has a good read on why this is so objectionable. In addition to playing class warfare games and deliberately splitting the coalition as a strategy, Huckabee is willing to give the GOP's political opponents an excuse to re-examine the tax exempt status of churches.

Lovely.

Sadly to say, this is pretty typical. It is even legal to pass out candidate comparison sheets, with social issues highlighted, especially abortion, within churches. They show their records or how they responded to various questions. They still are not endorsing a candidate but they are highlighting the "issues" which matter to Christians.

This has been done for years. The AFA, FRC and Falwell's organizations have provided these materials for free to the churches.
