Britian Promotes Self-Sufficiency
Do-It-Yourself...healthcare?
Millions of people with arthritis, asthma and even heart failure will be urged to treat themselves as part of a Government plan to save billions of pounds from the NHS budget.Okay...arthritis and asthma I can understand. But heart failure? How exactly do you self-treat that? Sitting still?Instead of going to hospital or consulting a doctor, patients will be encouraged to carry out "self care" as the Department of Health (DoH) tries to meet Treasury targets to curb spending.

For self care of heart failure, whack yourself repeatedly in the chest, taking care to whack the left side of the chest. Whacking the wrong side of the chest is a frequent and tragic cause of failure to self-resuscitate. Continue whacking your chest until your heart restarts, or as long as you are able. If you wish to include rescue breathing in your self treatment, stick one end of a drinking straw in your mouth and the other in one of your nostrils. To improve airflow, press the other nostril closed with the hand you are not using to whack your chest.

Speaking as an asthmatic, I can't understand self-care for asthma. Sure, we have meds we use regularly. But there are times - especially during cold & flu season - that intervention by a Dr. with additional meds is necessary; even life-saving. I've been there and it's not because I didn't take care of myself to begin with.
Asking an asthmatic to self-medicate - especially if they are in crisis - is as ridiculous as asking someone with congestive heart failure to monitor their pulse and call a funeral home when it dips below a certain level.
That's national health care for you...just what Hillary wants us to have.

Leeches and aspirin are cures for everything.
