A Pre-Emptive Apology
Sorry, folks. I'll do my best to support Mitt Romney up here, but there's no stopping the wave.
AUGUSTA - With a band of highly motivated supporters and a natural appeal to a mass of like-minded independents, Ron Paul's prospects at this weekend's Maine Republican caucuses are rated very high by party officials and other political observers.I'm expecting to see a lot of Ron Paul supporters at the caucus this weekend. So far, he's the only candidate who's visited the state. The only television ads I've see are his, and there are a number of Ron Paul lawn signs in various places throughout the state.Maine's GOP polling Friday, Saturday and Sunday may be the Texas congressman's best shot at winning a state, and the win would be big coming just says ahead of the Super Tuesday presidential preference contests in more than 20 states.
Paul is an intriguing candidate. He's about 50% perfect candidate and 50% completely batcrap insane. It's too bad we can't assemble a candidate from the pieces of our current crop. Imagine a candidate with Fred Thompson's conservatism, Romney's private sector experience, Paul's view of limited government, Giuliani's attack dog nature and Huckabee's communication skills.
Oh, to dream the impossible dream.
Whoops - MainiacJoe just reminded me - I forgot to mention McCain. That actually wasn't on purpose, believe it or not. McCain's tenacity is what I intended to include among the traits of the perfect candidate.
Let's all just ignore the fact that he tends, more often than he should, to engage that tenacity in pursuit of goals that irritate conservatives.

I'm guessing you realize you left out McCain's contribution.
The problem with this, of course, is that you could also get Fred Thompson's management skills, Romney's stubbornness, Paul's tolerance, Giuliani's social conservativism and Huckabee's secularism.
