On a Lighter Note...

tree.jpg
I killed this.

It's Christmas, and you know what that means - time to kill a tree for our enjoyment.

The girls were all set with excursions for the day, thank you very much, and opted to remain behind in the van.

I took Wesley with me and we headed out into the sticks, armed only with a saw.

It was cold enough that a lesser man might have quit and a better man might have been more concerned about the boy getting hypothermia.

I was like Clark Griswold in “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” My heart swelled as we marched deeper and deeper among the trees, waiting for the one that would be cast in its own golden shaft of light, waiting like Excalibur for King Arthur.

We went out with some friends to get a tree last weekend. It was not nearly as arduous, but I always feel a little guilty cutting down a perfectly good tree to satisfy tradition. But on the other hand, that's why it was planted, it smells good and looks nice and the pollution caused by making plastic trees probably makes Gaia cry or something.

Plus, it's fun to watch my daughter marvel at the fact that there's a real tree in the middle of the living room. Now if I could just get her to leave the ornaments alone...
