Slow News Days in Maine

Hey, did you hear about the protest against Plum Creek?

Plum Creek's bid to develop a large area of the Moosehead Lake region met with more protest Monday...

A volunteer organization called the Native Forest Network held a short play in Bangor's west market square Monday; acting out what they think is wrong with Plum Creek's development proposal.

The group wants protection and restoration in Maine's forests and wild places.

The group's leader says she hopes the play's message will get people to the public hearings. I'm sure the dozen or so people who actually saw the play will do just that.

WABI doesn't mention the attendance at the protest, and for good reason. It was practically non-existent. I only saw it because I was headed off to lunch and wondered why people were wearing moose-head masks and shouting. The coverage available at the link doesn't show the crowd, either.

It's amusing to me that this little gathering is deemed worthy of news coverage when other events (you know the type) do not. Maybe the moose people just have better press release writers.
