A "Huckabee Surprise?"

Drudge has deemed it siren-worthy:

CBSNEWSNYT POLL SET FOR RELEASE ON WEDNESDAY:
IOWA: Romney 27; Huckabee 21; Giuliani 15; Thompson 9
NH: Romney 34; McCain/Giuliani tied 16; Paul 8; Huckabee 6; Thompson 5
I'm not sure it's all that surprising, really. Huckabee has been tickling the ears of social conservatives for weeks, so he was bound to get a bump in the polls.

Why don't I like Huckabee? Behold...

The man is begging for a tax hike. He's almost Clintonian in his emoting here. The only thing missing is the lip-bite. Couple this with his odd view of how government should use its power, his atrocious record on spending, his support for extending state scholarship eligibility to illegal aliens, and you've got a guy who's to the left of Giulani or Romney.

But hey, Huckabee's pro-life, so he's not a RINO, right?.

The popularity of Mike Huckabee shows the dangers of one-issue voting. Sure, he's got the right record on a very important subject, and for that many evangelicals are rallying to his side, ignoring the red flags on a number of other issues that cast doubt on his ability to govern conservatively. So given his record of campaigning conservative and governing liberal, I wonder why social conservatives trust Huckabee to do the right thing on one issue, when he's done the wrong thing on so many others.

And one last thing on the poll...a guy who takes money from Nazis is third fourth (didn't notice the tie) in New Hampshire?

Hate to quibble, but Paul's 4th, not 3rd. Still, it's a very disturbing trend.

Beyond that, I knew there was a reason beyond the "Fair"Tax that caused me great concern with Huckabee.
