What if We Get Nuked?
This movie scared the crap out of me when I was a Cold War kid who feared "The Bomb." It looks kind of cheesy now, when even weekly television programs have realistic special effects.
Unfortunately, the end of the Cold War doesn't mean the end of worry about nuclear attack. The only thing different these days is the enemy. (link to pdf) Since such an attack is possible, this is not encouraging:
One might think, given the distinct possibility of a nuclear attack on a U.S. city, that the federal government would have already developed a realistic response plan specific to this scenario that marshals the resources of all the agencies. Remarkably, such a plan does not yet exist, although one is being drafted.Overall, the report is a sobering read. Perhaps it is my pessimistic nature talking, but I see a nuclear attack on a U.S. city as an inevitability, not just a possibility. There are simply too many countries working to produce nuclear weapons, and an alarming lack of accountability from Russia regarding its large nuclear arsenal. Who is to say whether one of those weapons has been sold to terrorists?
Um...happy Wednesday!

The Day After wasn't a very good movie (I rented it not too long ago). But that attack scene, yes, was very scary.

That's John Lithgow!
My parents didn't let me see it. This YouTube was actually the first footage of it I'd ever seen.
