Reservoir Candidates

Not my best photoshop, but a fun one.
Sinistar, writing at Doubleplusundead, has a good and long post on what might be causing social conservatives to be so twitchy. I think he makes an interesting point - the GOP has abandoned some pretty important conservative principles of late. In the case of the immigration debate, they all but declared war on the base.
I think that is part of what has caused some distrust of Rudy Giuliani by the evangelical wing of the social conservatives, but not all of it. There is some element of wanting to remain relevant and politically powerful within the concerns over Giuliani's positions on a couple of issues. If there were not, the "secret" meetings would have remained secret, and there would have been fewer threats and more attempts to convince.
It's the tactics that really bother me, not the philosophy behind them.

Think it ate my comment here too, but I think I changed my mind on what I was saying.

This is true, but doesn't go deep enough, I've actually heard Rush address this concern. The concern is that the GOP elite will try and change conservatism itself to match the candidate...which you can arguably point to Amnesty, again. The GOP elite tried to make Amnesty the position of the conservative movement. It failed, but they're still trying.
