Censure Craig

Oh, just leave already!

WASHINGTON (AP) - Idaho Sen. Larry Craig defiantly vowed to serve out his term in office on Thursday despite losing a court attempt to rescind his guilty plea in a men's room sex sting.

"I have seen that it is possible for me to work here effectively," Craig said in a written statement certain to disappoint fellow Republicans who have long urged him to step down.

Craig had earlier announced he would resign his seat by Sept. 30, but had wavered when he went to court in hopes of withdrawing his plea.

Remember - Craig said if the judge didn't void his guilty plea, he would resign.

So now I guess we can add "disgraceful liar" to his list of wrongs.

This is a chance for Republicans to show some leadership. Craig pleaded guilty to a crime, and then lied to the party and the American people. When Bill Clinton was president, Republicans said that was bad. Either it's still bad, or Republicans only considered it so when it was politically convenient.

Which is it?

Craig should be removed from any leadership position he holds, and from all committees he sits upon. Then, articles of censure should be passed condemning his behavior and his dishonestly. I encourage Maine's senators to lead that charge, and hold their fellow senator responsible for his actions.
