A New "Star Wars" Series?

George Lucas: I will not quit until I've desecrated all of your fond memories of "Star Wars."

"The Skywalkers aren't in it, and it's about minor characters," Lucas said in an interview. "It has nothing to do with Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader or any of those people. It's completely different. But it's a good idea, and it's going to be a lot of fun to do."

Lucas joked that the series would be about "the life of robots" but wouldn't let any details slip about the true premise. The "extended universe" of "Star Wars" has come to life already in Lucas-sanctioned novels, comics and games that chronicle the history of the Jedi and tell the tales of bit players in the films, such as the bounty hunters from "The Empire Strikes Back."

Why does George Lucas hate us?

If memory serves, Lucas is a liberal.

It could be worse: Lucas thought up the whole thing himself and then trashed it, but Peter Jackson trashed someone else's masterpiece.

Why so harsh? As a huge Star Wars fan, I'm optimistic about these ventures. If you look at Battlestar Galactica (the new one) and FireFly, you can see that sci-fi can be great in a TV series format. I would love to have a weekly fix of Jedis. The key is they have to bring in some fresh blood for the writing, someone like Joss Whedon or JJ Abrams to punch it up and take it to the next level. The Clone Wars cartoons were good.

Wouldn't it be great if he made this series without all the kids stuff that was in the movies? Maybe an adult geared show with plenty of intrigue set on Coruscant?

If they brought in some quality writing talent, it would definitely be worth watching. Unfortunately, Lucas is probably writing the thing, and he's not that good.

Bingo, Lucas is horrible. "I am your father" was the high water mark, and that was more than 20 years ago.

Eh, I'd hate to disagree, because I'm not convinced Lucas wrote everything in his prequels, besides the AWFUL padme/anakin scenes. He must have had someone else to work on the intrinsically complex scenes about the Emperor and how he got to power, how he seduced Anakin to the dark side, and seized power in the senate.
He should let his death-grip about Star Wars go if he does a TV bit, let it go to lucasarts, who have used better plots then he could think of with numerous books and games.

Look at it this way. Could it be worse than Big Brother or Dancing with the Stars? I'm up for anything that involves a script and actors at this point.
