What Does "Camo" Mean to You?

A mom overreacts.

One noted that Friday was "Camo Day" at the K-8 school. "So remember to wear your camo!" the kids were told.

Instead, a stunned Shadis kept her boys, a third-grader and a fifth-grader, home on Friday.

"I do not wish to send my two boys, ages 8 and 10, into a learning environment that has, for the day, become a militaristic-theme fashion show," she said in a widely distributed e-mail. "For the school to blithely encourage the normalization and desensitization of a potent symbol of war is simply wrong."

Lady, this is Maine. My daughter has 'camo' pants with flowers embroidered on them. In a month or so, deer hunting season begins, and it's nothing but camo in the stores and in the woods. People here wear camo as a fashion statement.

Some people take themselves far too seriously.

Seems like the school admins would have a hard time taking attendance that day, anyway.
