Stuff That Bugs Me

Entertainment Weekly recently did a list of 25 things that bug them. Since this has been in part a frustrating day, I figure now is as good a time as any to do the same. I don't have 25, but there are a few.

The first? People.

Okay, that's a broad category. I'll break it down into a few subcategories.

1a - People who drive too fast in parking lots. - I know Wal-Mart isn't the most fun place to spend a morning, but that's no reason to peel out of the parking lot as though you're driving a race car instead of a Honda. This ad was made for you.

1b - People who print multiple rolls of film at Kodak print machines. - Those single print machines found near the entrance of stores are great for scanning a photo and making a copy, or making a few copies of photos on a photo memory card or flash card. Not for printing - I kid you not - 110 pictures. Arg.

1c - People who take a full cart into express lanes - What about "15 Items or Less" doesn't compute, huh?

1d - People who don't accelerate at green lights
- This one is self-explanatory. Nothing worse than being behind someone with the reaction time of a frozen slug.

The second thing that bugs me? Paris Hilton. 'Nuff said.

Third? Squirrels. I buy bird seed to feed birds, not the fluffy tailed rats that infest our backyard.

Ahhh...nothing like getting that out of my system. Now if I could only get the squirrels out of my backyard...

I solved the bird shit and squirrel problem at the same time. I told my wife that if she bought any more bird seed I was leaving her.

This also solved the problem of the squirrels burying their nuts all over the yard. Holes everywhere. The backyard looked like a 182 hole golf course on 1/3 of an acre.

I did one of these a few years ago. I'd add the link, but I seem to be having trouble leaving links again.

In any case, perhaps it's time I did an update.

We thought we'd get a bird feeder. Decided on a suet feeder, because I'd rather see pretty woodpeckers and nuthatches than ugly house sparrows and grackles. Got one of those cages so the squirrels can't get at the suet. It works fine, we get a downy woodpecker in just a few days. Then the squirrel figures out how to get the suet out. No problem, I saw hot pepper suet at Meijer, that will do theh trick on the squirrel. We apparently have a Mexican squirrel. Now the woodpecker comes and wonders why there isn't any suet anymore.

Years ago my parents put up a couple bird feeders and the squirrels ran riot all over them. Frankly the squirrels were more fun to watch than the birds were.

Alton Brown, on the Food Network, called squirrels "nut-stealin' tree rats." They ARE fun to watch, but they destroyed the bird feeder I had outside my bedroom window. It was amusing, leaping from the tree to the feeder, hanging upside down from the branch, REALLY funny...but I haven't replaced it yet...

I don't think the Super Wal*Mart even has express lanes anymore.

Ha, I just caught the distinction you made between Paris Hilton and category 1.
