David Who?
I saw an advertisement last night for a show called "The Beckhams come to America" or something like that. It's part of a publicity blitz that Jonah Goldberg calls the "most transparently hyped, fraudulent, pseudo-event in recent memory."
Look, I understand that to many people, soccer is an exciting and fascinating sport and they long for it to catch on here in the United States.
But we've got football - the kind with the pointy ball. It's got guys hitting each other and so far, we've managed to keep our Super Bowls riot-free. The closest thing we have to "football hooligans" are Eagles fans.
Sorry, soccer-pushers. The connection isn't happening. We just don't feel it. And an English guy and his former Spice Girl wife aren't going to help us embrace the sport.
