Mystery Solved?
The question has been asked over and over again. Why are the Republicans so willing to alienate their base over the stupid amnesty bill? The Democratic motivation is clear - they want power through new voters. But the Republicans? Why?
Those lines represent who's getting money from agribusiness. In 2006, Republicans received 68% of the donations given by those companies for a total of $30,433,211. Democrats received 31%, or $13,974,976.
And John "We've got to get the money out of politics" McCain, one of the major supporters of this bill?
This year, agribusiness has given him $123,050 toward his presidential campaign.

For the 'pubs to think that those donations are inspired by the need for a migrant workforce, then I think they are likely wrong. That might be part of it, but if the dem's give into the roots, then agribusiness is screwed because they will label half or more of the produce and meat we eat as a type of franken food, creating a food scare that will hit agribusiness hard, and the normal person harder.
