Collins Does it Again - Bumped

Last year, my father called the office of Senator Susan Collins to express his concern with the issue of illegal immigration.

Here's a copy of the response he received. The relevant passage:

As my post then indicated, she sent this letter right before voting against an enforcement first bill.

Today, she did it again. Senator Collins has either had a change of heart on this position, which would have had to happen last year just after her staff sent this letter, or she tells her constituents one thing and does another.

Last year, I held my nose and voted for Olympia Snowe because she was strong on the war. Collins, however, has not been quite as good on that issue.

So unless the party can come up with a primary challenger, I have no reason to vote for her next year. I'll write in a name. Anyone want to receive a vote for a Senate seat in Maine?

UPDATE - Collins voted against cloture, effectively killing the bill for now, but that doesn't change the fact that she voted against the Coburn Amendment. What it does show is that she most resembles one of these:

And frankly, that's not really what I want from a Senator.

Sorry, Susan. You've still lost my vote. It's really a four-way tie between Heywood, MainiacJoe, Hal and Harrison right now.

And as for the president, I'm glad he lost this one. My column this week is an open letter of sorts. Now that the bill is dead, I wonder if President Bush thinks losing his last vestiges of support was worth it.

Vote for me! My platform is nationwide distribution of Moxie, to promote Maine tourism of course.

I'd nominate myself, but I'd just be some silly carpet-bagger.

Incidentally, what ever happened to Alan Keyes?

Would I have to live there or could I telecommute?

Hell of a good close to that column.
