McCain Falling

Ouch:

Only the media proved less popular than Sen. John McCain at last weekend's annual gathering of the Conservative Political Action Conference.

In a straw poll of attendees, McCain, who skipped the right-wing gaggle, finished last among the serious presidential candidates with 12 percent of the vote.

A straw poll at CPAC may seem essentially worthless, but it is useful for determining which candidate will get money and volunteers.

McCain did win a straw poll in South Carolina - by two votes. He got 164 votes and Rudy Giuliani received 162 in an extremely conservative state.

Being a "maverick" has gotten McCain good headlines, but seems to have annoyed the people he's now counting on to get to the White House. So far, he's not doing a good job.

UPDATE - At least McCain, for all his faults, is not completely delusional. We've already got a New York mayor in the race, Nanny. Maybe he'll let you be the surgeon general.

Well that's too bad, I was hoping Dobson would make himself invisible this campaign by focusing on an also-ran. Now he'll need to find some other pot to stick his finger in, now that God has "answered his prayers."

Oh, I'm sure the Dobster will have some bad stuff to say about Rudy.
