Too Much Fun
Jack Abramoff says he can name six to eight 'seriously corrupt' Democratic senators.
Remember the days??
“Republicans have shut down an ethics process that should hold Members accountable. It is long past time for the Republican Congress to take the necessary steps to restore a high ethical standard in Congress and put the Ethics Committee back to work to investigate any misconduct of Members, including those involved with Jack Abramoff. The American people deserve nothing less.”Then there's this one:
"The American people deserve better. The Republican culture of corruption is so entrenched in Washington that the Republicans cannot bring themselves to pass lobby reform legislation even in the face of these extraordinary scandals. It’s clearly time for a new direction to restore integrity to Congress."How's that working out for you so far?
I wonder if some Democrats are beginning to question the whole 'culture of corruption' campaign they ran earlier this year?
UPDATE - Forgot to mention that Karl Rove may also be implicated in this testimony.
Oh, well.
Time to take one for the team, Karl.

I don't think they think it matters.
If a politician is a Republican, he is obviously evil and deserves to be burned at the stake.
If a politician is a Democrat, he is above reproach.
Consider the common knowledge that Chicago and Louisiana are thoroughly corrupt. Nothing. Has. Been. Done. This really frustrates me.
Were either place Republican, I guarantee the corruption would be wiped out with fire and salt under pressure from the Democrats.
Feh.

I'll agree that the gloom-and-doom is excessive, but every decision made since the election has not been in the direction of reforming and reenergizing the GOP. They're not moving in the right direction, let alone making progress.

Yeah, that's depressing too.
But in thinking about it - and considering just how petty some of the complaints from the base have been the past two years, why shouldn't Bush tell us to shove off? We've been biting at his ankles for two years.

On the potentially continuing Abramoff scandal, I say bring it on and clean house, regardless of who goes down.
As far as Bush-bashing goes: his leadership has been flagging in his second term. All of the abuse from the press must have sapped his will to fight. And never getting any credit for his successes (legislative victories, court appointments, the economy) must have been very discouraging.
But he's also repeatedly suffered from a political tin ear and consequently has been justly hammered by the Right. That's not really our fault, and we shouldn't have to sacrifice critical domestic issues in order to support the war. Not that I'm not willing to do that, but it shouldn't oughta be that way.
