The Sky is Falling...again.
Man, you'd think President Bush shot a puppy.
Upon hearing the news that Senator Mel Martinez from Florida will be the next head of the Republican National Committee, conservatives around the web went into full-on defeatist mode.
Honestly, it's becoming a game of who can out-insult the president. Some sample comments:
So amnesty is the official position of the republican party now?Doom! Despair! Misery!Screw the RNC. I’m goin’ home.
They need to know that there are a ton of conservatives that are considering leaving the party if things don’t change. They need to know that right now.
This is a disaster.
IMHO conservatives need to consider forming a whole new political party
'08 disaster is guaranteed with this choice.
I don't think Martinez is a particularly good choice, as we need a full-time chairman and someone who can effectively sell the ideas of the GOP to the public, but treating it like it's the end of the world, or the last straw, is just insane. RNC Chair Martinez does not automatically equal amnesty for all illegal immigrants (this seems to be the major issue people are upset about). Congress has a say in it, and despite what some may believe, we can still at times influence what they do.
Letters, phone calls, donations. Those influence members of Congress. So stop grumping and speak out.
Maybe we should all take a step back and listen to the wise words of one Charles De Mar.

I agree.
I do not think many understand the force of the Message sent in the election.
Everyone I have spoken to who ran to the voting booths, did not have the dream of taking over the Legistlative Body; almost all have surprised me with dreams of removing Bush out of office...Period! It has made even my old eyebrows rise in wonderment.
Mr. President; that was not a 'thumping' you heard, that was the stomping of feet raising in unison the heart of America and was just the tip of the ice burg apparently. At this point, I do not think the new party understands the Americans have no objections to imposed formal hearings and would stand behind such actions to any party that chose to engage in it.
If we voted out the Republican party and you support Martinez as you do, he has just climbed onto a sinking ship. He is welcome to stand there and perhaps that is exactly where we want him.

Well, that's not quite what I was saying, but thanks for the comment.

Isn't that Booger? I can't remember if he was Booger in "Better off Dead" or just in "Revenge of the Nerds." Anyway, I wasn't interested in the political stuff, but I liked the picture and quote from the 80s movie. I also have to say, I don't get you ripping on the Simpsons man. The Simpsons are a force of ultimate good. DD

It's nice to find common sense breaking out. the "Drink the Kool Aid" crowd of political drama queens gets old real quick.
