Okay, Back to It!
Yeah, there hasn't been a lot the past few days. As I mentioned earlier, I was in western Maine part of the week, and had a nice Thanksgiving with my wife's family. I ate too much, but who doesn't every November?
I've spent much of the rest of the holiday weekend reading and playing video games. Just finished "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield, a novel about the Battle of Thermopylae. I'm looking forward to the movie 300 and wanted to learn a bit more about the battle.
The book is not just about the battle, but about Spartan culture and warrior training, but also about how differently soldiers from the east and west percieved combat. Victor Davis Hanson has written about this. It's an interesting example of how ancient history can give context to modern events. Next on the reading list? A cheerful book. It will put me in a fine frame of mind for my flu shot this week.
As for video games, I've been melting my brain with Red Dead Revolver, a silly western shooter. There's really not much to the game, but it's a fine diversion.
