Kerry - Political Genius - Bumped
John Kerry's recent comments are a political gift to the NRSC, according to Byron York.
And now, of course, Democrats, who might have to defend Kerry in public, are appalled at the way he has injected himself into the campaign. From their point of view, is there any doubt that his political instincts are always wrong? He made a mistake in 2004 by not responding earlier to the Swift Boat Veterans. And now, he has misapplied the lesson of '04 by over-responding to the controversy caused by his "you get stuck in Iraq" statement. Can you imagine how irritated Democrats are with Kerry right now? They were well on their way to a nice little victory, and with one stupid statement, Kerry changes the political landscape, reminding why they didn't elect a Democrat president in 2004.
Well played, Senator.
UPDATE - Has Kerry removed himself from the spotlight?

Heck, he might not even make it past the straw poll, given this candidate's reaction to the senator's remarks. (via: Reihl World and Allah)
UPDATE II - Kaus at Slate notices some spinning by the New York Times. Shocking, I know.
CNN wants the story to just go away.

Kerry's defense seems to be that we should all know better, the problem for him is that we do. It's his problem to fix and he's not interested in doing it - that's what you get for being an arrogant S.O.B., who thinks he can say whatever he wants with... [Read More]
