Kerry Apologizes - Updated Again

It's over.

As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: my poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and never intended to refer to any troop.

I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended.

It is clear the Republican Party would rather talk about anything but their failed security policy. I don’t want my verbal slip to be a diversion from the real issues. I will continue to fight for a change of course to provide real security for our country, and a winning strategy for our troops.

Sure, it's a little weaselly and includes an unnecessary slam on Republicans, but unlike other politicians, he actually used the words "I apologize" and that counts for quite a bit.

UPDATE - As to Kerry's apology, I agree with Jonah Goldberg here:

Now that I've slept on it, I basically think John Kerry remains an unfettered crapweasel for that apology. But, I think it does effectively put the whole thing to rest as a matter of public controversy. Kerry has slunk away to hide in some limepit. And if the GOP tries to keep playing this card in some really aggressive manner it will come out the loser. Not as big a loser as Kerry, but that's a pretty high mark.
Politically, it's over. Kerry did what we asked him to do - he apologized to the troops for his comments. Sure the apology was halfhearted, but if we start slamming the apology itself, we're going to look ungracious and set an unreachable bar for political apologies in the process.

UPDATE II - Okay, I guess the rest of you were right. If Kerry is truly sorry for what he said, why does he have that editorial linked on his website?

I will never give Kerry the benefit of the doubt again.

It counts for dick.

The guy has done this several times before, and to date he has not apologized for comparing our forces in Vietnam to Genghis Khan and for accusing our troops in Iraq of terrorizing children.

He's apologizing because he may have single-handedly given the '06 elections back to Republicans.

The guy is the snot from a mooslim's nose.

I repeat. It counts for nothing.

Kerry, (foot in mouth, head in a**) is simply trying for damage control.
His "apology" means nothing.
His sniveling excuses of how he messed up his speech, which seems to have been re-written about 4 times so far, are pathetic.
The man is a walking, talking pile of human debris.

Sen. Kerry did not apologize.
He apologized if people misinterpreted his remarks. He apologized if people were offended by his remarks. He did not apologize for saying the wrong thing. He did not apologize for choosing the wrong words and attacked those that took offense with his remarks.

This is not an apology. It is an even more of an attack on Pres. Bush and our country's fighting men and women. He apologized for people being too stupid to figure out what he was really trying to say.

Don't give up so easy.
