Random Campaign Commercial Reviews
Just saw a campaign commercial for Jean Hay Bright, who is running against Senator Olympia Snowe this year. Her commercial features dead Iraqis, pictures of flag-draped coffins and lies about the war.
Hay Bright has done the impossible - she has just made me look forward to voting for Olympia Snowe with her disgusting and exploitive commercial. I look forward to live-blogging her inevitable concession speech, which I predict she could easily deliver about three minutes after the polls close. Olympia is going to crush her.
Mike Michaud's commercials, on the other hand, crack me up. He's using basically the exact same commercial from two years ago. Now that's a cheap frugal Mainer.
John Simpson's commercial (the one with the kids) is so schmaltzy, it seems like a parody.
I'm not sure who thought it would be a good idea to make an anti-Woodcock campaign commercial that centered on abortion, narrated by a woman who looks like the scariest librarian in the world (the knuckle-rapping kind), but they might want to rethink that one. Every time I see it, all I can think is "SHHHHH..." Just saw the ad again - make that a smug librarian.
Chandler Woodcock's commercials feature words that drop onto the screen like in the worst powerpoint presentation you've ever seen.
Barbara Merrill's ads are actually pretty effective. But when you make a commercial outside - don't squint into the sun.
Oh, and Joe Perry - STOP MAILING ME STUFF. I get it, already. You're a local boy, you have a cute family and you love puppies, rainbows and one only presumes pina coladas and walks in the rain. ENOUGH.
Next Tuesday can't come fast enough.
