Baby Language

Saw this story over at ace's site. An Australian woman says that baby talk is universal.

Priscilla Dunstan says babies share a universal language — one that moms can understand. After a nurse told her not to worry about her baby’s constant colicky crying, Priscilla Dunstan, now 32, decided that there must be a better answer. As a professional musician in Australia with a “photographic” memory for sound, she began to keep notes on her newborn son’s wails, and, sure enough, detected a pattern — five specific sounds that he would make when he was hungry, tired, needed to burp, was uncomfortable, or had gas.
Huh. Sometimes my daughter makes noises as well.

They sound a lot like "WAAAAAHHHHH!!!!"

Kidding.

I think each baby has their own language, but I'm not sure about the universal thing. That sounds a bit too much like the whole 'baby whisperer' thing and that's slightly nuts.

My daughter is at the point now where she's starting to imitate our noises. A few days ago, I was fixing something and hit my thumb. The pain caused me to cuss. After hearing me, she looked up at me, smiled and started saying "Shhhh...shhh..."

With my luck, she'll learn to finish the word when we're at church someday.

LOL Slu!
Gotta teach 'em early.
Just your luck it will be at church.
Your little one is just so precious.
Enjoy her while you can.
Actually, as a mother of 3, I believe the cries, while unique to each baby are very similar. I can hear a fussy baby out in public and it just comes to mind, someone's wet, or hungry. Are women the only one's that can hear it?
