The Dole-ization of Harold Ford

Ah, the joys of hotel-room cable. I reaquainted myself with the Mythbusters, Alton Brown and, um, The Weather Channel. This morning, the cable gave me an opportunity to watch Fox and Friends instead of any of those network shows. Today, the crew interviewed Tennessee Senate candidate Harold Ford, Jr. Ford is a frequent guest of Fox and I've always enjoyed watching interviews with him. He's good-natured, funny and seems like a genuinely nice guy.

So what the heck happened to him?

The Ford I saw this morning was robotic, scowling and repeated the same (poll-tested?) phrases over and over again. He kept referring to the RNC's "smut ad." I think he used the phrase at least half a dozen times. Hint - if you don't want to be the subject of 'smut ads,' don't go to parties hosted by Playboy. Ford actually used the phrase "degrading to children" when describing the ad.

Not his best performance, and I think it was more evidence of a campaign that's been stumbling the past couple of days.

And now, like conservative bloggers looking over Reuters photos, the nutroots are examining every RNC and Corker ad, looking for evidence of 'racism.' Sometimes, the results are, shall we say, a stretch.
