The Crusade is Coming to an End

Report: Studio 60 close to cancellation.

Here we go: despite receiving an order for three more episodes on Friday, the Aaron Sorkin NBC drama “Studio 60 on Sunset Strip” is about to be put out of its misery.

Cast members are already confiding in friends that the end is near. It’s likely NBC will pull the plug shortly I am told by insiders.

Last week, Studio 60 had 7.7 million viewers. Compare that with competing "CSI: Miami," with 17.5 million. That gap cannot be closed.

About the only downside to this news is that we're going to be subjected to the ravings of Aaron Sorkin for a few weeks afterward, telling us that we were too dumb to understand his vision.

SAs far as I'm concerned, it's a small price to pay to get rid of a thoroughly unpleasant show.

You know what else I hope is imminent? Fox News online hiring a copy editor.

B-O-O H-O-O. That show was wicked lame. I hate Hollywood insider crap. You can see how they get sucked into thinking it's interesting since it's their lives, but it's not. What do you hear about "The Office"? I was worried because I didn't see it in the top 20 in Entertainment Weekly. It's my favorite show. I don't know what I'd do without it. DD

That show blows dog. They are coming out of a show, Heroes, that has over 15 million viewers and losing more than half of them.

I actually like Sorkin's writing. Sports Night was fantastic (albeit marginally preachy), then the first few seasons of the West Wing were pretty good (increasingly preachy), and now there's so much wrong with Studio 60 I don't even know where to begin. It's a show about making a comedy show, and yet it's got almost no laughs. It's not only transparently autobiographical:

it's also egomaniacal. The show's genius producer's only contribution to the show (within a show) thus far has been to push Matthew Perry's character to do more political humor ... because apparently sketch comedies are too scared to do "Bush is Dumb" jokes. But really, everything that's wrong with this show can be encapsulated in one, jaw-punchingly bizarre sentence: "Your little brother is standing in the middle of Afghanistan!"

My love for Sports Night is such that I can't stop watching, but I hope that it will end mercifully and quick.
