Streisand's Outburst

Barbara Streisand was rather direct with a heckler at a recent concert.

There was Streisand, enduring a smattering of loud jeers as she and “George Bush” — a celebrity impersonator — muddled through a skit that portrayed the president as a bumbling idiot.

Though most of the crowd offered polite applause during the slightly humorous routine, it had gone on a bit too long, especially for those who just wanted to hear Streisand sing like she had been doing for the past hour.

“Come on, be polite!” the well-known liberal implored during the sketch as she and “Bush” exchanged zingers. But one heckler wouldn’t let up. And finally, Streisand let him have it.

“Shut the (expletive) up!” Streisand bellowed, drawing wild applause. “Shut up if you can’t take a joke!”

The "(expletive)" in question, by the way, was the f-bomb. Although it pains me to say it, I understand Streisand's frustration - I hate hecklers or people who make themselves too obvious during live performances. Still, despite what Streisand may think, people weren't paying to hear her political views.
Once the outburst (which Streisand later apologized for) was over, Streisand noted that “the artist’s role is to disturb,” and delivered a message of tolerance before launching into a serenely beautiful rendition of “Somewhere.” That put the focus back on what the audience came for — her voice, one of the greatest female instruments of her generation.
The artists role is not to "disturb." It's to entertain. I'm not sure when artists adopted that particular pretension regarding what they do, but if I'm going to pony up two, three or seven hundred dollars to listen to Streisand, I expect her to sing, not inflict her insipid political opinions on the audience.

One of my all-time favorite SNL skits is John McCain singing Streisand songs. When it becomes obvious that he's a terrible singer, he looks at the camera and says "I'm not very good at this, am I? How does it feel?"

Streisand should watch that skit over and over again until she gets the point. Sure, she's entitled to her opinions. But her fame and talent does not entitle her to force those opinions on those who have paid huge sums of money to watch her sing. I wish the entertainment industry would get the message - we pay attention to you not because you're brilliant, but because you are talented in a particular field.

You're like dancing bears. Sure, they're fun to watch, but you wouldn't take their advice.

So dance.

I am so f'ing sick of these punk-ass liberals who can't take a taste of their own f'ing medicine. No one's saying that she shouldn't have an opinion, but, like many of my neighbors, she can't conceive of good people who see things differently than her. Then, she uses her f'ing money and status to bully someone who was only pissed off because he came to hear her sing. Think about it..who was the more enlightened person of the two? I'll tell you who....it's the conservative, who went to the concert, even though she's one of the most elitist b'tches on the planet, hoping to hear her sing, and overlooking her distasteful personality. Then, he got up and left his ticket money behind, showing that he'd rather lose money than be degraded by that b'tch. She's got the worst punishment of all just being herself, not being able to live outside of her imaginary f'ing world where everyone thinks like her. Then, she resorts to bullying when she encounters someone who dares to speak up against her bullsh't. Well, that's how so many of these liberals are. They so conceited that they can't admit that they're so often out of step with at least half of the public.
